“Don’t Buy” Rules for Offline/Online Internet Marketing Products

  • Don’t buy based on the amount of hype
  • Don’t buy because every Internet Marketer and his dog is promoting the product
  • Don’t buy because the copywriting is slick
  • Don’t buy because the marketing videos are slick
  • Don’t buy because it’s the latest thing
  • Don’t buy because the statistics look amazing
  • Don’t buy because a few past buyers made a killing using the system/software/service
  • Don’t buy when your emotions are running high. Wait until your good sense can take over from your emotions.
  • Don’t buy because of perceived serendipity – “I was just thinking I need to learn xxx… and this email about xxx landed in my Inbox today! That can’t be a coincidence!” (Be careful… your emotions are showing! All the other rules still apply!)
  • Don’t buy because the product creator is a 19-year-old marketing genius, and you figure, “If he can do it, so can I!”
  • Don’t buy because it’s “only” $47 (How many $47 ebooks do you have on your hard drive that you’ve never read? Right, I thought so!)
  • Don’t buy because it’s discounted from $497 to $197 (Marketing 101 tactic)
  • Don’t buy because you just made an online sale and the money is burning a hole in your PayPal account!
  • Don’t buy because the doors close at midnight tonight! (It’s called the “scarcity” tactic. Human beings can’t stand to think they might be missing out on something!)
  • Realize that no one product or service will make or break your online success.
Rules for Buying Internet Marketing Products
“Muuuust buuuuuy nooooow…”

How to manage our Zombie-like “muuuust buuuuuy nooooow” compulsion:

  • Walk through the sales process and see how many up-sells there are! (This can be a real eye-opener! Ahem, don’t complete the purchase process!)
  • Wait 24 hours before you buy.
  • Visit the Warrior Forum (http://www.warriorforum.com) and dig around to find unbiased reviews of the product.
  • See if there are any similar WSO’s on the Warrior Forum. (Often a cheap WSO will give a ton of great value, matching or surpassing many expensive, hyped-up products. Reading threads on the topic you’re interested in in the Warrior Forum is an education in itself.)
  • Unsubscribe from all but a handful of the most informative ezines. The only thing you’ll miss is the sound of your money going down the drain. (Most “newsletters” these days are just one sales letter after another.) Using this tactic alone has saved me thousands of dollars.
  • Go ahead, have your fix of hyped-up products, just set a monthly budget and stick to it!

Those are fantastic tips! I agree. I always try to do as much research as possible – the higher the price being asked, the more research I’ll tend to do to see if it’s really worth the extra money.
